It is never about me. it is always respecting the people of the past with me. I am quite sure. I am also descended from Solomon of Victoria Village. I believe my great grandmother was known as Miss Solomon before she married James Campbell.
Bunkya Solomon had a Rum Shop over the line at Victoria, 1963 -1969. Hermina Solomon is a daughter of Bunkya. Perry is a son of Bunkya.
Badderara Solomon resided over the line, towards the sideline with Cove and John at Victoria. Dina is the name of his wife.
Perhaps, it was Buddy Rollo Solomon who ran a grocery store over the line at Victoria.
Claudette Solomon Lucille Solomon married Fraser children include Orin Fraser and three sons. Evadney Solomon and Clifford Adams were married. Clifford Adams provided musical entertainment in the district. Cyrus Solomon and Mama Solomon also resided over the line

DEATH AT A POLICE COURT
Shortly before the Vigilance Police Court was opened on Thursday last, a Blackman named Friday Campbell, a proprietor at Buxton village, fell down in a comatose state on the staircase leading to the Court -room. The old man, who was about 76 years of age, had attended the Court to prefer a charge against a lad named Alder for stealing provision from his farm at Buxton, and had only a few minutes previously telling Sergeant Trotman that he could not get his witness to attend. Seeing the old man fall, Sergeant Trotman went to his assistance and had him conveyed to his house where he expired shortly after his arrival.

Friday Campbell is one of the African shareholders of Plantation New Orange Nassau. The plantation was purchased by Africans in April 1840. Later in the nineteenth century, Plantation New Orange Nassau became known as the village of Buxton. There are two accounts relative to the death of Friday Campbell. They are found printed on page three in the Daily Chronicle issued on Saturday, July 14, 1888 and Sunday, July 22, 1888. The first article states the death of Friday Campbell occurred on the steps of the Court house at Vigilance. He was 76 years old.
The second account was also printed on page three. It is found in the Daily Chronicle issued on Sunday, July 22, 1888. This account states Friday Campbell was 89 years old. It further states he was once married. He had eighteen children, 46 grand children and 15 great grand children.

OBSERVATION.
It is possible that Friday Campbell is the father of James Campbell. Friday Campbell was born in either 1798 or 1799. James Campbell was born in about 1827. Thus, living mathematics suggests it is plausible that Friday Campbell is the father of James Campbell. The need is to identify the eighteen children, 46 grand children and 15 great grand children and other relatives of Friday Campbell to ascertain whether he is indeed a relative of James Campbell (1827-1924).
I suppose there are descendants of Friday Campbell who have knowledge of his Campbell heritage and members of his Campbell kinship. Perhaps relatives of Friday Campbell are still dwelling in Buxton and in Guyana and/or overseas.

Campbell with having entered into a contract with Rachael Campbell to serve her as a labourer in the Cuyuni river, and having received the sum of $5, by way of advance, neglected to fulfill the same without reasonable cause. Defendant pleaded guilty, and stated that he was sick, in consequence of which he did not fulfill the contract. He was fined $15, or one month’s hard labour.

I believe I have a much lower level of respect for my great grandfather than I previously did… This is supposing this article is reference to my Campbell ancestors. Now, here is a man who donated land for the location of the Leper Asylum; who built a Church at Victoria Village; and who repaired St. Mary’s Church of Scotland at Jonestown Mahaica District. But who has the audacity to permit my grandmother to seek employment in the Cuyuni River basin. I was of the opinion only females with low moral values visited those regions or females who were going there with their husbands or mates. I guess I was wrong but I doubt it strongly.

The defendant appeared in person, and Mr. Dargan, instructed by Mr. Cameron, appeared for Mrs. Campbell.
The defendant, in answer to questions put to him by Mr. Dargan, said that on the 17th March last he was ordered by the Court to pay $30 per month as alimony to his wife. He paid nothing when the order was made. When the Court fixed the amount of alimony, he was examined with respect to his salary and as to his means. From the date of the order up to the 1st of September last, he was in receipt of $86.89 as salary, but since his salary had been reduced to $84.89, which was due to his having to employ another assistant in his school.
When the first instalment became due he was not in a position to pay it because he had to pay the Building society the sum of $37.68. He petitioned the Court in April last for a Receiving Order. He was forced to become insolvent. When he was examined in the suit brought by his wife for judicial separation, he did not tell the Court that he was owing a sum of $660 on two promissory notes. He had made over his furniture to someone in October 1896. The furniture remained in his house up to the time he petitioned for a receiving Order. He was unable to pay his wife anything out of his salary for April as he was forced to borrow money on it to go into the Insolvency Court. By his insolvency he was relieved of the payment of the costs in the suit. The first payment made by him was on the 13th October last. He paid $60 then. It was on a judgment-summons. He offered that sum long before the Judge made the order. He was only able to pay his wife $18 per month.
By the Court: the statements contained in his motion paper were true and correct. It cost him $66.89 to support himself and son.
Their Honours then reserved decision.

2.Muriel Campbell, nee Roberts. Muriel was known as Sheila. Muriel Roberts’s father was a sergeant in the Police force. Muriel Roberts spent her childhood on the Corentyne Coast, the Firish- Gibraltar region. Muriel Roberts’s mother ‘s maiden name Proffitt.
Collins Stuart Campbell was employed at Transport and Harbours Department for thirty odd years. Firstly, an apprentice, and being promoted to a fireman, and following that a train driver. When the railway closed on the East and West Coast, he became a bus inspector on the TATA busses. Collins Stuart Campbell had number of relatives, who resided in Kitty. Mr. George Campbell is one of those relatives. He also had relatives residing in Nabaclis.
Arthur Campbell perhaps (the surname I do not know) who resided either in Norton or Benn Street, somewhere in Worthmanville. Arthur was a huge man, who resided in a massive concrete house and was perhaps a money lender. Roy ( again the surname I do not know) brother of Arthur. Collins Stuart Campbell is known to have reproduced a son and a daughter. His son, Joseph Nathaniel Campbell, resides in the UK. The daughter resides in the USA.
Winston Cecil Campbell and Bearl (or Beryl) Elias of Nabaclis reproduced two children, the son’s name is Winston Edward Campbell and the daughter’s Celine who was retarded. It is quite possible that Collins Stuart Campbell and Winston Cecil Campbell’s father is Joseph James Campbell who resided in Lancaster, East Coast Demerara.

The aim is to ascertain whether every member of the kinships of Campbell I become privy to are relatives of James Campbell (1822?-1924?) of Victoria and Lancaster on the East Coast of Demerara. It is known, James Campbell and several groups of Campbell clans including the brothers; Josiah Campbell and Samuel Augustus Campbell (Schoolmasters), Friday Campbell (Buxton), Solomon Campbell (Sparendaam), John Campbell (Lusignaan), Reverend John Allan Campbell (Grenada), and County Sergeant Major Campbell all possess ancestral heritage connected to the island of Barbados. However, only County Sergeant Major Campbell is known to be related to James Campbell. Interested in locating and communicating with the members of the
Kinships of Bentick, Campbell, Friday, Kissoon, Sancho, Solomon, and
Young (also spelt Younge in Guyana) of Guyana, Barbados, and the
English Speaking nations of the Caribbean Basin.

I am aware;
My great grand father, James Campbell-Friday and Emanuel Campbell, County Sergeant Major of the British Guiana Police Force are relatives. They spoke with the flavor of Barbadians. My great grand father, would later, before he married abandon the hyphenated surname and be known as James Campbell.
Between 1870 and 1882, Reverend John Allan Campbell, Isaac Campbell, and James Campbell were all resident and/or frequented the communities of Golden Grove and Nabaclis on the East Sea Coast of Demerara.
Schoolmaster John Allan Campbell, the father of Reverend John Allan Campbell, was born in Barbados. Also Reverend John Allan Campbell was a pastor at Providence Methodist Church in the late 1880s. However, I am not aware there is a Methodist Church at Providence in Christ Church in this era.
In the late 1850s, Schoolmasters Samuel Augustus Campbell and his brother Josiah Campbell migrated as youngsters with their parents to the colony of British Guiana.
Bayley was the owner of Plantation Haslington and perhaps influential respecting Plantation Golden Grove. Turton was likely the owner of Golden Grove in January of 1848. I believe my great great grandmother is a daughter of slave master Bayley and an African.
I am hoping you will be able to point me to folks respecting the nation of Barbados who are likely to assist by pointing me to sources of information. Perhaps starting with people of Providence and Kellman's Land, and those included in this correspondence, especially the contact information of the Justices of the Peace, and/or that of their relatives.

The Reverend John Allan Campbell is a native of the West Indies, and was received into the Society's service as one of its Missionaries in 1868. He bas laboured with success and acceptance in Demerara, in the George Town, Mahaica and Golden Grove Circuits. He is at present en a visit to this country. (198)
BRITISH GUIANA DISTRICT. — Extract of a Letter from the Rev. J. A. Campbell, dated Golden Grove, December 6th, 1876. — You will doubtless be pleased to learn that
the membership of our Circuit has, during the year, considerably increased, and that the prospects of the work here are very cheering.
On taking over the Circuit in March I resolved to hold a week of revival services at each of the stations. We began at Ann's Grove: the power of God was manifested in the accession of several, drawn from the world, all of whom came up to the penitent rails. The next week we continued the services at Victoria; and, though many felt it good to be there, in the realization of the blessings of a quickening of spiritual life, yet, as to external and immediate visible results, we had only one penitent at the time ; and some who chiefly regard such, and such only, as a manifestation of blessings, seemed not quite satisfied. The week after we held the services at Golden Grove. Since holding the services our congregations have improved, and the people have seemed more healthy and hearty and vigorous in their piety. In the moonlight nights of October I again decided to repeat these special services; and in answer to our fervent asking and earnest expectation, the Lord signally poured out His Spirit; and night after night strong men and young w men were seen bowed at our communion rails in penitence and tears, seeking a blessing. It was truly a time of refreshing from the presence of the Lord. We continued these services for three weeks, and the interest of our people was unabated to the end. During this revival of God's work we have added considerably to our numbers, so that the membership of this Circuit will be increased about fifty. A pleasing feature of this work was, that it was conducted principally by the Local Preachers, mostly black men, in conjunction with myself: my plan being to get two local brethren of our own Circuit to assist me each, night with addresses. I have increased my staff of Local Preachers. There are one or two fine, intelligent. God-fearing young men here who are under; my training; and, in. time, may prove useful .in God's vineyard.

Anthony Calder

Former Editor of the Guyana Chronicle Anthony Calder died yesterday after a prolonged illness. He was fifty-seven.

A press release from the Campbell-Calder family said yesterday he had passed away peacefully in his sleep at the family home in Beterverwagting.

The statement said his last post had been as Editor of the Guyana Chronicle, where he had also served for a considerable period as acting Editor-in-Chief. It went on to say that 'Tony,' as he was familiarly known, had embarked on his journalistic career as a freelancer. He was later to work as a reporter on both the New Nation and the Mirror newspapers, as well as with the Guyana Information Service as an Information Assistant. He was also at different times a local correspondent for the Caribbean News Agency, Chief News Editor of the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation and Editor-in-Chief of the Kaieteur News.

According to the family, Anthony Calder was one of four brothers - the others being Frank, Alvin and Nills Campbell - who served as full time journalists and editors of local media entities, and three of whom rose to the level of editor-in-chief.

Eucryl Anthony Calder leaves to mourn 13 children, ten siblings, and several nieces and nephews.

ALLEGED ATTEMPT TO POISON HUSBAND
Wife and Schoolmaster Charged - Case Fixed For Friday
George Henry, Headmaster of the Plaisance Congregational School, was charged indictable by the police before Mr. Cyril H. E. Legge yesterday with having during the month of January, at Plaisance, conspired with Mrs. Albertha Campbell, to administer poison to her husband, Hubert Campbell.
Mr. Edmund Fitzgerald Fredericks appeared on the behalf of the accused.
Detective Inspector White, who appeared to prosecute, asked that the accused be remanded in Police Custody to appear at the Sparendaam Court on Friday, February 1, he said that the woman who was implicated in the same case, was in Berbice, but had not yet been arrested.
His worship remanded the accused as requested. It was learnt later that Mrs. Campbell had been arrested in the morning in Berbice and it is likely that she will be brought to the City and appear at the City Police Court, to-day.

DEATH OF THE REV. JOHN ALLAN CAMPBELL
The death of the Rev. John Allan Campbell took place yesterday afternoon at his late residence in Croal Street, Georgetown and the Presbyterian Church in the colony has thus lost an energetic minister.
Rev. John Allan Campbell is the son of John Allan Campbell, one of the masters of the Grammar School in St. Georges in Grenada. The Rev. John Allan Campbell was a native of that island.
He was brought up in the Scottish Church, but, while a young man, after spending five years in the study of law became a Wesleyan Minister. He arrived first in this colony 35 five years ago, while in his twenty-second year, but shortly afterwards left British Guiana, and laboured for six years in Barbados, St. Vincent and Trinidad. On his return to Demerara 14 years ago, he applied for admission into the Presbyterian Church and was appointed to take charge of St. David’s Parish, Essequebo, where he remained for three years, doing good work and gaining the esteem and confidence of his people. His next appointment was the parish with which his name will be associated for many years – St. Mark’s on the West Bank, and here since the 18th December, 1891, he worked with unremitting zeal until the 27th ultimo, when finding that his health was failing he came to town. At this time he was suffering from a rather severe attack of influenza, and this malady in its more advanced stage was attended with heart trouble the existence of which had never previously been suspected by his friends. His condition steadily became worse each day and to the regret of all who knew him the end came yesterday. Both as a Wesleyan and a Presbyterian minister the Rev. John Allan Campbell was known to be a man of much tact and great energy, and since he joined the Scottish Church he was instrumental in accomplishing a vast amount of good, especially in the way of supplying his parish with schools. Last year he completed a new church at Christianburg which was opened in August, and he also thoroughly renovated St. Mark’s Church. The deceased Minister leaves a widow,Mrs. Annie Goodridge Campbell and five children, Allan Bolton Campbell, William Colin Campbell, Gertrude Margaret Muriel Campbell, Annie Frances Alice Campbell and John Allan Campbell. Two of his three sons, Mr. Allan Bolton Campbell, and Mr. William Colin Campbell, are employed in the Government Secretariat, the former permanently, and the other filling an acting appointment.
The funeral will take place this afternoon at 4.30, the procession moving to St. Andrew’s Church where the service will be conducted by the Rev. W. B. Ritchie and the Rev. James Millar.

The funeral of the Rev. John Allan Campbell whose death occurred on Thursday, took place yesterday afternoon and was largely attended. The procession moved from the deceased clergyman’s late residence in Croal Street to St. Andrew’s Church where the service was conducted by the Rev. W.B. Ritchie and the Rev. Jas. Millar. Mr. Archie Smellie presided at the organ, and among the large assembly in the Church were Messrs. Allan Bolton Campbell, and Mr. William Colin Campbell, the deceased’s sons, the Revs. C. H. Creed, J. W. Wright, Wilfred Wright, J. J. Toddings, J. Mansfield, F. Glasgow, and E. Pocknell, and Messrs. S. A. H. Culpeper, D. G. Garraway, P. P. Fairbairn, H. D. Belgrave, J. B. Woolford, H. A. N. Burrowes, Wm. Smith, W. Chalmers, Wm. McDonald, E. B. W. Rankin, W. A. Osborn, W. Smellie, W. S. Stoby, E. G. Massiah, G. Stewart, L.Thomas, H. V. Gunning, W. Callendar, C. G. Davis, L. A. R. Davis, J. W. Johnson, Jas. Richardson, H. Norton, T. H. Greathead, H. P. McInroy, J. R. McInroy, J. Van Cameron and J. C. Devonish.
At the conclusion of the service the coffin, which was covered with wreaths, was borne from the church and the procession moved to La Repentir where the last rites were performed in the presence of a large concourse of people.

OBITUARY: Mrs. Annie Goodridge Campbell, Widow of the Late Rev. John Allen Campbell
The death of Mrs. Annie Goodridge Campbell, widow of the Late Rev. John Allen Campbell, Minister of St. Mark’s Parish, West Bank, Demerara, and moderator of the Presbytery of British Guiana in 1901 took place at her home “Woburn House” lot 49 Croal Street, early yesterday morning.
The deceased who was 76 years of age was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Edward Goodridge Bowen. She was unwell for the past few months and despite the best medical attention she passed away at 5.15 o’clock yesterday morning.
The deceased is survived by two sons, Messrs. Allan Bolton Campbell, Accountant of the Treasury Department, and J. Allan Campbell, and one daughter, Mrs. G. T. Armstrong, now resident in England and several grand and great grand children.
There was a short service at the house after which the cortege moved to St. Andrew’s Church where the funeral service was conducted by the Rev. G. H. Nicol, Minister in Charge of the Church, assisted by Mr. E. G. Fonsecs.
The interment was made at the Le Repentir Cemetery, the Rev. Mr. Nicol performing the last rites.

Largely Attended Funeral

As briefly announced in the Sunday’s Daily Chronicle Mr. Samuel Augustus Campbell, retired veteran Schoolmaster of this colony died at his city residence D’Urban Street, in Wortmanville District at the age of 78 years after an illness of about seven months.
Born in the island of Barbados, on May 14, 1853. Mr. Campbell was brought to British Guiana while quite an infant and was educated at St. George’s School and later at Bishop’s College. After college he entered the teaching profession, occupying the head master’s chair at schools in various parts of the colony at Zeliandia E., Wakenaam, Enmore E., East Coast, St. Paul’s Plaisance, and in the city at Freeburg and St. Phillip’s where he remained for more than forty years until retirement about four years ago.

Dan Sharples’s Contemporary
It was about the year 1886 that Mr. Campbell received the appointment at St. Phillip’s, then under the management of the Late Venerable Archdeacon Castell, and during his period more than two generations of families passed through their primary Educational course with many distinguished successes. To the numerous students who received their early education under his direction he was popularly known as “the Skipper” and many there are also who have carried with them warm recollections of his disciplinary methods.
As an educationalist Mr. Campbell was the contemporary of the late Dan Sharples, who had charge of St. Thomas school. Previous to his retirement in 1925, Mr. Campbell celebrated his golden jubilee as a primary school teacher and even on retirement he conducted a private school which however, he was forced to abandon owing to ill health.
As a teacher the name of Samuel Augustus Campbell will always live among guianese as one of the few wholehearted, painstaking and necessarily successful teachers at our Government schools. His ability was unmistakable. Teaching to him was a profession in the deepest sense of the word, and he loved it sincerely as such.
Toward the end of May last year he became ill, and quite recently he found it impossible to ward off an attack of influenza which assisted considerably in hastening the approaching end. He is gone into the Great Beyond but his memory will always linger and his character – the character he laboured over half a century to stamp on the youth of British Guiana – will never – can never be erased.
The Funeral
The Funeral took place yesterday afternoon from his late residence; D’Urban Street, and was well attended. At the house a short and solemn service was conducted by the rev. W. H. Bryant, assisted by the Revs. J. Dingwall, and D. E. Perry, after which the cortege wended its way to Providence Congregational Church, where another service fully choral was conducted by the Rev. Bryant, assisted on the rostrum by the Revs. D. E. Perry, J. Dingwall, W. Fraser, Trenton Field, and D. P.Talbott. During the service the Rev. Bryant, paid a great tribute to the deceased on leaving the church the procession preceded to Le Repentir Cemetery where the body is entombed. The Rev. Bryant, again performing the last rites. On leaving the house and on arrival at the church the coffin was borne by the deceased relatives – Drs. W. W. Campbell and R. T. Bayley, Messrs. C. A. Campbell and E. A. Campbell F. A. Leuben and J. A. Brown
Leaving the church and arriving at the cemetery the following schoolmasters carried the coffin, Messrs; GF Armstrong, J. D. Richmond, W. Arno, E. F. Chance, F. E. Pollard and S. N. Harper.
His Relatives
Mr. Campbell was married twice, his first wife predeceasing him some years ago. He is survived by his second wife, Amelia Campbell, also three sons; Dr. W. W. Campbell ( a practising medico and optician in this city), Messrs C. A. Campbell (solicitor) E. A. H. Campbell (J.P.) (Chief Clerk, at the city Magistrate’s Office), and three daughters; Mesdames; A. B. Brown and D. E. Perry, the wives of Hon. A. B. Brown and Rev. D. E. Perry) and Miss C. Campbell. There are also five grand children, and one great grand child, in the son of Dr. and Mrs. R. T. Bayley.

Retired veteran Schoolmaster Funeral this Afternoon
Georgetown: Saturday
After a protracted illness extending over a period of seven months, Mr. Samuel Augustus Campbell, retired veteran Schoolmaster, died at 5.20 am today at the ripe old age of 78 years
Mr. Campbell who was known through out the whole colony was headmaster of St. Phillip’s E. School, for no fewer than forty years. Teaching two or three generations of many families in the meanwhile and retiring on pension about four years ago.
Previous to this Mr. Campbell, who began teaching at a very early age, filled posts in his profession in various country districts of the colony.
Mr. Campbell was married twice and leaves a widow, Amelia Campbell, three sons Dr. W. W. Campbell, (retired Chief Clerk of the Deeds Registry) Ernest Arnold Humphrey Campbell (Chief Clerk, Magistrate’s Office, Georgetown), and three daughters; Mesdames; A. B. Brown (wife of Hon. A. B. Brown) and D. E. Perry (Wife of Rev. D. E. Perry) and Miss C. Campbell, along with a number of grand children, and other relatives to mourn his loss.

SAMUEL AUGUSTUS CAMPBELL 1854-1931
Respected Head Teacher and British Guiana Teachers’ Association Official.
Educated at Bishop’s College and possessing a First Class Teachers’ Certificate. He was regarded as second only to Daniel Edgar Sharples (1852-1913) as a successful teacher producing scholarship winners, in the opinion of George Henry Augustus Bunyan (1877-1962). He served as Primary Schoolmaster for more than fifty years, teaching in Plaisance, Wakenaam, Freeburg, and St. Phillip’s Schools.
He was President of the British Guiana Teachers’ Association from 1885-1891. He was independent in his judgments. Once he boldly asserted his authority that the fees stated in the Annual Exam Return Forms were seldom collected. He asserted that the entries were known to be false by the Schoolmasters and the Managers, who signed the forms, and the Education Department Officials who received them knew them to be false. He described this as “Jobbery here; Jobbery there and Jobbery everywhere. As a result, school fees were abolished.

DR. WILLIAM WELLESSLEY CAMPBELL also BROTHER SIMEON (1875-1962)
Educated at St. Philip’s and Queen’s College, in 1886 he was awarded a Scholarship funded by Mr. Exley, Principal, Q. C.
In 1894 he won the Guiana Scholarship, and proceeded to King’s College, London where he studied medicine.
In 1903, he was M. R. C. S., L. R. C. P., London and returned to serve in guyana. Part of his study and training was Clinical Assistant, Royal Eye Hospital, London.
He was Doctor at Georgetown Maternity and Child Welfare Centre, and was a specialist in Eye and Children’s diseases.
In 1930 as Treasurer, BG Workers League he was one of the signatories on the application for registeration.
He retired from the medical service in 1949 and became Brother Simeon at Mount St. Benedict, Trinidad, where he served until his death in 1962.

Gravesande – Campbell Mahaica Tuesday, January 13th. 1942

Miss Pearl Francena Albertha Campbell, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. D. Campbell of Lancaster, and Assistant and Sewing Teacher of Unity Canadian Mission School, was united in holy matrimony on Tuesday, December 23rd. 1941 to Mr. Eric Hubert Gravesande, youngest son of Mrs. Gravesande of Mahaica and R. L.C. (Mahaicony District).
The ceremony which was choral took place at Mahaica Methodist Church, the Rev. Ewart Hackshaw, officiating, with Mr. Rupert Duncan at the organ. The church was specially and tastefully decorated for the occasion by the choristers, and friends of the bride.
The Bridegroom arrived at 2.30P:M accompanied by his brother, Mr. Edmund Gravesande.
The Bride arrived promptly at 3.00 P:M and was given in marriage by her father. She looked a picture of loveliness as she stepped up the central aisle, attired in a skirt of plain slipper satin, a bodice of brocaded satin, and a train of figured satin lined with blue and finished with a pair of horse shoes and a basket of flowers. She carried a lovely shower bouquest.
The dress was the handiwork of Mrs. F.E. Pollard, of Pln. Drill, East Coast, Demerara.

OTHER DRESSES
The first bridesmaid, Miss R. Campbell, looked pretty in a dress of white brocaded taffeta trimmed with pink satin and pink ribbons, pink spray, and head dress to match.
The second bridesmaid, Miss C. Campbell, was attractive in a dress of pink suede, white spray, and pink net, with shoes and head dress to match.
The Bridegroom’s mother looked exceedingly nice in a dress of rose beige with mauve accessories.
The Bride’s mother was particularly charming in a dress of pink figured crepe-de-chine, with shoes and head dress to match.
The page, Cedric Grant was admirable in a blue velvet suit.
The flower girls looked beautiful in dresses of yellow satin, with shoes and hats to match.
Miss Enid Carbon looked well in a dress of pink stamped taffeta, pink bow, white gloves, with a bouquet of artificial flowers.
Miss Maple Carbon wore a dress of pink net and plain taffeta, pink hat, white gloves, with shoes and hat to match, and carried a bouquet of artificial flowers.
Miss O. Grandsoult chose pink stamped taffeta, with pink hat, pink gloves, with a bouquet of artificial roses.
Miss E. Campbell’s dress of a pink taffeta, with pink headdress, white gloves, and she carried a bouquet of artificial flowers.
Miss Ward selected blue and white suede georgette, white gloves, with shoes and hat to match.
Miss A. Henderson wore a pink dress, gloves with shoes and hat to match.
Miss E. Conzius’s dress was of blue suede georgette, red headdress with shoes and hat to match.
Miss Lee was in a dress of lemon taffeta, with white shoes.
Miss Pansy Hansfield looked well in a dress of plain taffeta with lace to match.
Mrs. Scott, the Bridegroom’s Aunt chose a stamped georgette dress headdress with shoes and hat to match.
Miss De Challus looked nice in a dress of pink organdie and white ribbons.
Miss Glen’s dress was of white embroidered organdie with gold ribbons.
Miss S. Hercules wore a dress of pink figured crepe-de-chine and peach spray.
Miss E. Vande Cruz looked well in a dress of blue taffeta with shoes to match.
Miss W. Lynch’s dress was of white organdie, pink ribbon and a bouquet of artificial flowers.
Miss Theobald looked very pretty in a dress of plain taffeta rose beige with lotus lilies.
Miss London wore a stamped satin (horse shoe) dress.
Miss Bovell was in blue and white velvet and carried a blue wallet.
Miss J. Wilson chose a dress of figured pink satin.
Miss Campbell, the bride’s sister was in a dress of figured orchid with hat and shoes to match.
Miss Janki Nauth looked pretty in a dress of pink taffeta.
Miss W. Thomas looked fine in a figured crepe-de-chine.
Miss M. Anderson was pretty in a dress of pink taffeta with hat and shoes to match.
Miss R. Campbell was charming in a dress of old rose satin, gold headdress, white net and a bouquet of asparagus.

THE RECEPTION
The reception was held at Belmonte Cinema Hall which was attractively decorated.
The bridal cake, which was made by Mr. V. Hope, was three-tiered Diamond-shaped and decorated with silver flowers.
The Rev. E. Hackshaw blessed the table, and Mr. H. C. Anderson, Master of Ceremonies, proposed the health of the bride and bridegroom.
The Yankee Clipper Orchestra provided music for dancing to the small hours of the morning.

Identifying the Relatives and Descendants of James Campbell of Unity-Lancaster, Mahaica District, East Sea Coast of Demerara, British Guiana (now Guyana).

The pieces of information concerning James Campbell and his immediate relatives, as related to me by several person, over more than fifty years, all his descendants, including the following; Muriel Sancho, James Campbell, Yvonne Braveboy, Sidney Marious, Phyllis Sancho and Leebert Sancho, is very scanty at best.
Dr. James Asthon Campbell reminiscence concerning our common ancestor, James Campbell, his grand father, and his immediate relatives states the following;

James Campbell was a gold miner. It is not clear whether James Campbell was born in British Guiana and or has Barbadian heritage. It appears James Campbell, at some point was known by the hyphenated surnamed Campbell-Friday. However, the usage of Campbell-Friday was discontinued before James Campbell was legally married. James Campbell's wife was known as Coolie Campbell. James Campbell remarried at the age of 96 – and died one year later – several years before Dr. James Campbell was born in 1934. It is likely; Coolie Campbell is the daughter of Solomon – and an East Indian female – perhaps a member of the kinships of Mootoo, Ramator, and Kissoon. It is believed members of the kinships of Mootoo, Ramator, and Kissoon are relatives of the descendants of James Campbell and Solomon.

James Campbell is resting in peace in the churchyard of St. Mary's Scots church at Mahaica. It is known; James Campbell was a major contributor to the Christian Church and its affairs on the East Coast of Demerara.

The known children of James Campbell of Unity-Lancaster, Mahaica District are the following; Rachel Campbell (Mrs. Alexander Sancho); Charles Campbell; Arthur Campbell; Papa Campbell (probably Donald Friday Campbell); Mama Campbell (probably Latina or Lutina Campbell) later Mrs. Wilson and Mrs. Gibson; Mrs. Becka Lammy [probably Rebecca Campbell]; Chester Campbell; Lennie Campbell (probably Lenny Campbell or Leonard Campbell), and Joe Campbell (probably Joseph Campbell) out of wed lock.

Lennie Campbell (probably Lenny Campbell or Leonard Campbell) was employed at Mahaica Hospital; the Leprosy Asylum.

Joe Campbell (probably Joseph Campbell) out of wed lock – resided at Air Hall, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

Mama Campbell (probably Lutina Campbell) Lutina Campbell mother of Sonny Campbell married Wilson. The union of Mama Campbell and Wilson reproduced two daughters; Marie Wilson and Iris Wilson. After the death of Mr. Wilson, Mama Campbell moved to McKenzie and, married Mr. Gibson, General Foreman at Demba. The Gibson union produced no children.
Marie Wilson married McLean. Roy McLean is either the name of her husband or her son or both.

Iris Wilson married Ross. The Ross family was the owner of the Woodbine Hotel. The union of Iris Wilson and Ross is known to produce Patsy Ross (probably Patricia Ross). It is understood; several years ago, Iris Wilson resided with her daughter on Long Island, New York. One of Patsy Ross's sons is perhaps a commissioned Officer in the US Armed forces. It is said The Ross family were formerly of West Coast Berbice; probably Hopetown.

Papa Campbell (probably Donald Friday Campbell) was married to Deli Campbell. Deli Campbell's maiden name is Allick. Deli Campbell and Isabella (nee Allick) Campbell, the wife of Charles Campbell are first Cousins. Papa Campbell and Deli Campbell are known to be the parents of two daughters; Constance Hermia Campbell and her sister, Miss Pearl Francena Albertha Campbell.

Miss Constance Hermia Campbell married William Harper Campbell, a dispenser. Dispenser Campbell was known as Doc Campbell. This Campbell and Campbell union produced no children.

Miss Pearl Francena Albertha Campbell married Mr. Eric Hubert Gravesande.
Miss Pearl Francena Albertha Campbell and her husband, Eric Hubert Gravesande is known to reproduce ten children.

Becka Lammy [perhaps, maiden name Rebecca Campbell] married Lammy and resided at Victoria Village, on the East Coast of Demerara. It is accepted Becka Lammy's son Fred Lammy migrated to the United Kingdom.

Rachael Campbell married Alexander Sancho in about the year 1899. The union of Rachel Campbell and Alexander Sancho, reproduced eleven children; six sons and five daughters, Lambert Sancho, (Lammy Sancho, Buxton), Ric Sancho, (Beterverwagting), Charles Sancho (Charlie Sancho, Bachelor's Adventure), Selbourne Sancho, ( Selly Sancho, Victoria); Elsa Marious (Nabaclis); Victor Sancho (215 David St., Kitty); Mary Dorothy Inez Sancho, (Nurse Inez Sancho, Health Visitor);Muriel Sancho (Primary School Teacher, 1928-1973); Margaret Adams (Golden Grove, E. Charles Campbell was employed for numerous years, as an Engineer at Plantation Enmore, on the East Coast of Demerara. Charles Campbell married Isabella Allick. It is known the union of Charles Campbell and Isabella Allick reproduced two sons, James Ashton Campbell, and Charles Campbell.
James Ashton Campbell, the son of Charles Campbell and Isabella Allick married Joyce Whitaker. The union of Campbell and Whitaker is known to reproduce one son and one daughter; James Ashton Campbell, and Marcia Campbell.

Marcia Campbell married Robert Chavis and they reproduced a son; Carson Chavis.

Arthur Campbell married Elizabeth Jupiter. It is known the union of Arthur Campbell and Elizabeth Jupiter, reproduced five children; one son and four daughters. They are the following; Maybel (Mrs. Braveboy/ Mrs. Woolford), Ismay Taitt, Ruby Ann, Bee (Beatrice Lowe) and James Campbell. It must be noted Elizabeth Jupiter had a daughter Rose Jupiter before the marriage to Arthur Campbell. Rose Jupiter was known as Rose Campbell. Tom Keen, the well-known hire-car Driver is a son Rose Jupiter and Cupidore.

James Campbell married a Portuguese, sister of Mr. Alphonso who had a grocery store at Nabaclis.
The known children of Maybel (Braveboy/Woolford), are the following; Culthridge Campbell, Henry, Joseph, Edmond, Cecil [aka Strong Boy Woolford], Clarence [aka Kotto Woolford], Florence, Marietta and Yvonne Braveboy.

The relatives and descendants of Frederick Emanuel Prowell Campbell, Retired County Sergeant Major of the British Guiana Police Force, are relatives of the descendants of James Campbell. County Sergeant Major Campbell is the father of Henry Campbell, who was also a police officer in the British Guiana Police Force. County Sergeant Major Campbell’s wife was a teacher. Mrs. Campbell was a mixture of East Indian and Black. County Sergeant Major Campbell died either on December 2, 1976 or December 2, 1977.

James Campbell donated the land upon which the Mahaica Hospital is found. However, it is known the Leper Asylum at Mahaica was designed and built by the architect James Bradshaw Sharples (1799-1859), with most of the work being completed before his death in 1859. Could the leper Asylum as it were in the mid-twentieth century be on its original location? The Mathematics does not compute; it is known R. O. C.
